History

The party was founded in July 14, 1990 in Novi Sad. On the First Party Congress, the League adopted program, which defined following principles of the party: liberty, equality, justice, solidarity and publicity. On the Second Congress, which was held in July 1997, the League adopted new party Statute.[1]

In the first years of its existence, the party's activities were mainly directed towards organization of anti-war actions. Together with other parties, it organized anti-war demonstrations in Vojvodina and publicly opposed mobilization of Vojvodina citizens for front-lines in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.[2]

Goals of the Party

The League advocates the "right of autonomous decisions about fundamental affairs of Vojvodina within Serbia", which, according to the League, was abolished after the so called Yogurt Revolution in 1988 and after constitutional changes from 1990, which, according to the League, diminished the autonomy of Vojvodina to "protocolar minimum".[3]

In December 1998, League proclaimed that its political goal is establishment of the Republic of Vojvodina within federalized Serbia.[4] In recent years, the League mostly abandoned the idea about Republic of Vojvodina, but it still advocating larger level of autonomy for the province. In November 2011, the party official of the League, Aleksandra Jerkov, stated that "Vojvodina needs more jurisdictions", but that "there is no need for it to be a republic".[5]

Participation in elections

The League participated in most Serbian elections, except in parliamentary elections from 1992. In 1996 elections, League was part of the Vojvodina Coalition, which won about 50,000 votes.

State elections

In 1997 parliamentary elections in Serbia, League was also part of the Vojvodina Coalition, which won 112,000 votes.

At the legislative elections in Serbia, on December 28, 2003, the party was part of the Together for Tolerance Coalition, that won no seats.

At the legislative elections in Serbia, on January 21, 2007, the party was part of the LDP-GSS-SDU-LSV Coalition, that won 15 seats.

At the legislative elections in Serbia, on May 11, 2008, the party was part of the For a European Serbia Coalition (led by Democratic Party), that won the elections and formed post-election Serbian government.

Provincial elections

On the provincial elections in Vojvodina in 2004, the party was part of the Together for Vojvodina Coalition, that won 9.44% of votes in the one-round voting system, and that subsequently participated in post-election provincial government.

On the provincial elections in Vojvodina in 2008, the party was part of the Together for Vojvodina Coalition, that won 8.25% of votes in the one-round voting system, and that subsequently participated in post-election provincial government.
